Ansfelden (between Linz and Wels), Upper Austria
DISH: Gibertini 1.5m
RECEIVER: Pace 2600
LNB: MTI AP8 T2
Posted 21-03-04
The dish is mounted on the roof of an apartment building, approximately 11 meters above the ground and ithus s much more exposed to wind forces than a dish mounted on the ground. For dish aligning I've had and expert with a digital satmeter, it took him only 10 minutes to align the dish perfectly.
System is now working for two days, picture is perfect with sunny and clouded weather, Signal strength about 70%, signal quality about 30%.Today is windy weather, peaks about 50 to 60 km/h. Picture is perfect almost all the time, only a few mistakes in picture which are really rarely.I will keep you updated about different weather conditions (heavy rain etc). The footprint puts me in the 180cm diameter zone, this should give hope to anyone in my area that reception is possible with 150 cm. Cable Length: 10 meters. |

RECEIVER: Panasonic TU-DSB30
DISH: Sky minidish
LNB: minidish type

I'm living in Dornbirn, which is right near the point where Austria, Switzerland and Germany meet. I am using a Panasonic box TU-DSB30 with the Sky minidish and LNB. I receive 2D channels (RTE, TV3, BBC, perfectly *most* of the time. I am currently updating to a 80cm dish to insure constant reception. Weather does not seem to influence the reception, i.e., it can break up sometimes when the sky is completely clear. It also seems to break up sometimes at the same times during the day.

DISH: 1.50m Gibertini Dish
LNB: Invercom with channel Master Feedhorn
Aprox. 20 meters of cable

I am running two recievers as my panasonic wont have any of it and the old amstrad is doing ok. End result Amstrad being used for ITV and BBC etc, (some changing of channel required through the day to get better H or V channels "regional"). The Panasonic is being used for the full sky package.

DISH: 80cm dish & Minidish
LNB: Not given

I now have an 80 cm dish, but before this I had just the minidish. With the minidish I received the 2D channels (RTE, TV3, BBC..) fine most of the time, approx 20% of the time the picture was breaking up, or not there.

DISH: dnt centered 1.5m
LNB: Invacom Quattro 0.3 dB

Please let me post some useful information for people living in or around Salzburg city, stable reception of ASTRA 2D is possible. Last week I tried some experiments with an ancient 15 year old 1.5m PFA dish in step with a Hirschman flange feed (probably not designed for PFA's).I tried different LNB types (from very old ones to modern low noise models). Experimental Status (best results): Settopbox: Hyunday digian 3000, LNB: Invacom Quattro 0,3 dB (in step with a multiswitch from Technisat)dish: dnt centerfed 1,5m dish feed: hirschmann 850Results: sky clear (no clouds): Quality between 95 and 98%, thunderstorm conds' (black clouds): Quality not below 70 % (limit with this receiver is 45%).I hope this experiment brings in a little hope to those having read about 1.8-2.4m dish size for possible reception in the Salzburg area! The BBC channels are wonderful! - There are no commercials and you always find something interesting.....
Best wishes and a good reception!H. |

Vienna (NO ASTRA 2D)
RECEIVER: Panasonic Digibox
DISH: 80cm dish
LNB: 4-output LNB
Can not receive ITV or Hallmark or other channels on Astra 2D. I have a 1.2m Channel Master dish which I used previously in Hungary. I will soon put that dish into service (been waiting for ground mounting kit) and see if I can get Astra 2D. Also installing a Manhattan 6800 for FTA on other channels.

RECEIVER: Hyunday 820 receiver |
DISH: 1.8m Hirschman dish
LNB: 0.3dB Invacom

Astra 2D FTA channels are being picked up in Vienna, Austria (35-40%). Respected local satellite expert (http://www.olbort.at) is recommending that nothing under 2.4m will do and, that Sky Digiboxes will struggle to receive a signal with anything less than that.

Vöcklabruck (100km east of Salzburg)
RECEIVER: Grundig gds2000 digibox
DISH: Gibertini 1.5m offset dish
LNB: MTI ap8-t2b

I wasn't sure if a 150cm dish would be big enough because my location puts me in the 180cm zone, but there was a local supplier able to get me the Gibertini for EUR300 so I hoped that if Herr Wimmer could do it 100km east of me, maybe I could get away with it. I don't think the elevation scale on the dish is very accurate - I know that my location requires elevation for Astra 2 to be 33deg but the dish gets a signal with its elevation scale pointing to 36deg.
It took me a day to set the dish up and get a signal, using the digibox signal quality meter with the default transponder set to 2d. At one point I had a good signal but tightening up the lnb clamp bolts and dish support bolts lost it completely, and I couldn't get it back again for hours! Finally managed it, and now have a stable crystal clear 24hour BBC/ITV picture. I don't know how it will perform in bad weather or snow storms but I'll soon find out. The digibox
signal quality bar only has to be at about 30-40percent for me to get a stable picture. The lnb skew and forward-backward position seems to be critical - a few millimetres separate a good picture from nothing at all. I'm back in the UK for few days soon and think I'll swap my Grundig for my dad's Panasonic DSB30, to see if I can squeeze any more signal quality out of it. 10 metres Belden CT100 coax used. |
