UK Radioplayer, the BBC-backed single online player being designed to stream more than 400 UK radio stations from one single location, will be launch on Thursday March 31st 2011.
The player, which has been in development for many months, will allow streaming of all BBC as well as commercial stations from the same location.
Radioplayer, which is backed by the BBC, Global Radio, GMG Radio, RadioCentre and Absolute Radio, has been demonstrated at the Radio Festival in Salford.
Culture Minister Ed Vaizey used the Radio Festival to urge the BBC to take up the responsibility of funding and coordinating a digital switchover in the country..
Radioplayer will be available on YouView as well as other internet-connected TV set top boxes. Online radio listeners can search by station, programme and genre, and also store favourites as pre-sets.
Michael Hill, managing director of UK Radioplayer, said: "This is a defining moment for UK radio."
"It is a result of genuine collaboration across the industry and is the sort of innovation we need to make digital radio a reality," added Tim Davie, director of BBC audio and music. |
