YouView
YouView, is a proposed open, internet-connected television platform in the United Kingdom. The venture is a partnership between four broadcasters (BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV plc) and three communications companies (Arqiva, BT and TalkTalk). The platform, which is planning a full launch in February 2012, will allow consumers access to a range of third-party services (television channels, radio stations, on-demand services and internet content) using a compliant device (such as a set-top box) built to a common technical standard and through a broadband internet connection. The project was branded YouView in September 2010.
YouView will bring you the simplicity of Freeview, plus the UK’s leading Internet catch-up and video on-demand services.
That means digital TV, plus BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 and SeeSaw, all instantly available on your TV, through one simple set-top box.
The on-screen programme guide will go backwards in time as well as forwards. You can discover and watch great programmes whenever you want.
YouView will also have High Definition, as well as the choice of pay-TV channels and on-demand programmes from TV providers such as BT Vision and Talk Talk TV. It’s also a personal video recorder, so you can pause, rewind and record live TV whenever you like.

What do you get with YouView?
With YouView, you will get: Freeview, catch-up TV, High Definition and a personal video recorder (to pause, rewind and record live TV).
As well as showing what is on now and later, the YouView programme guide goes back in time. So you can watch what was on last night, or even last week – instantly, on your own TV.
YouView is subscription free, once you have your boxt, you plug it into your TV aerial and broadband and that’s it. Of course, for those who want more there will be a huge choice of on demand pay TV – including films, sports & US drama.
YouView has been specially created to allow developers to create apps for the TV. Plus, content providers can add their programmes to the guide.
